Pantone’s Color of the Year 2023: Viva Magenta

Every year, The Pantone Color Institute^™ announces their Color of the Year with the aim to reflect all that is going on in our global culture. Through one intentional, carefully selected color, Pantone hopes to embrace the relevant topics and questions we’re currently facing as a collective.

Pantone recently announced their 2023 Color of the Year, Viva Magenta 18-1750, a shade they refer to as “powerful” and “empowering”. Rooted in nature, Viva Magenta descends from the red family, tapping into its characteristically fearless energy. Looking to draw inspiration from nature, Pantone’s selection was inspired by the red color of cochineal, one of world’s brightest natural dyes.

Pantone’s color selection comes from influential trends across industries worldwide. This year, there is a clear influence from “what is real”. Plants, animals, and other forces of nature all come into play, making for a positive, upbeat, and lively color. When it comes to design, a bold color such as Viva Magenta is the perfect way to accent a predominantly neutral palette or bring a project to life with a dose of full color.
