Pantone’s Color of the Year 2022: Very Peri

Dec 2021 | Style Guide | 0 comments

Whether you keep up with current trends or not, one thing is certain. The Pantone Color Institute™, the leader of color trends, never ceases to surprise creatives across industries with the annual starring role that is their Color of the Year.

2022 will be the year of Very Peri (Pantone 17-3938), a new, unique color created by the global team of experts behind Pantone. For some, Very Peri may seem to be just another shade of blue, but for the Institute, the new hue represents a transformative step of diving into the unknown.

For the first time since the Pantone Color of the Year educational color program began back in 1999, the Institute has stepped outside the boundaries of their existing palettes to create a new color. Very Peri, the warmest of all blue hues, blends a periwinkle hue with violet-red undertones; a creation the institute refers to as versatile, futuristic, and “an empowering mix of newness”.

Drawing inspiration from influential trends that impact color in fashion, travel destinations, lifestyle, and even major sporting events, the Color of the Year’s purpose is to reflect the current societal landscape. According to Pantone, the complexity of a new color mirrors much of the innovation and transformation currently taking place on a global scale. Very Peri is here to send an encouraging message of creativity and inventiveness as we step into a new year filled with endless possibilities.

Below, take a look at the varieties, color palettes, and exciting combinations we’ll be exploring as Very Peri is introduced into the world of floral design.

The Very Peri Flowers

Agapanthus

Celebrated for their striking, linear dimension and romantic appeal, Agapanthus are highly-beloved ornamental flowers. Their showy, spherical flowering heads are found in various colors including a subtle violet-blue tone remarkably close to the 2022 Color of the Year.

Delphinium

Few flowers can make a statement like the delphinium flower can. A favorite amongst floral enthusiasts, it is one of the few flowers that is naturally blue in nature. The spray varieties, as pictured, offer a rich spectrum of blue hues that perfectly capture the spirit of the 2022 Color of the Year.

Liatris

Known for its lighthearted visual appeal, given its  exclamation point-like shape, effervescent colors and fun, feather duster texture, Liatris is the perfect fit not only in color harmony but also in the key feelings of this year’s selection– joyous, whimsical, and futuristic.

Veronica

Veronica is a line flower featuring a long, thin bloom with numerous florets and are available in various colors, including this deep violet-blue. They have a natural bend, even when fully hydrated, adding life and joyous movement to any arrangement they’re placed in.
